Purchase online Word Press training - A professional looking website is critical for an online business’s success so I highly recommend investing in an online training program (including recommended plug-ins and widgets to obtain desired functionality and search engine optimisation or SEO). I used Laura Roeder’s program which saved hours of frustration ($197).

1. For a professional look purchase high resolution images from a stock photography business such as photodune ($1 per image) these can be used on your website and any other print and graphic design projects.

1. Design and purchase business cards consistent with your branding from an online company such as vista print or zazzle ($30) so that you have a summary of contact details when networking and marketing your business in the real world!

1. Set-up social media accounts under your business name with Facebook and Twitter and consider extending this to LinkedIn and Google+. Ensure that your branding is consistent across all of these social media platforms and connect with other companies that have a similar audience. Invite your personal and professional networks to connect with your business via these platforms and ask them to recommend to their networks where relevant. Keep your personal social networking platforms just that for personal use!

1. Set up a blog and write concise and relevant information to your target audience and issue this on a consistent basis (weekly or monthly). Repurpose these documents and submit to other websites or blogs that serve a similar audience and to online article websites such as EzineArticles. By having other websites link back to yours you will get significantly better results in Google searches and drive traffic to your site.

In the online age there is so much to master and many businesses provide enough free content to allow you to be successful without blowing your start-up budget.

Running a home based business while taking care of your children doesn’t go without challenges. I understand the pull to do laundry over making sales calls. I get it when you ask me, “How the heck do you even talk on the phone while your 2 year is tugging at your pant leg saying “Mommy, mommy I think I poo’d in my pants.” I confess this has happened to me more than once! But the rewards of making an income, being a successful business woman, while being able to stay at home and raise your children is well worth it.

Here are some simple tips you can take to making your Mompreneur journey go smoothly:

1.) Have a designated area to do your work: Of course it would be fabulous to have an office, but not everyone has that luxury. It IS important, however, to have a designated area just for your work. Not for anything else. Covet this area. The kids should have a special area that they can do their homework and create as well!

2.) Choose a business that works with your new schedule: What do I mean by this? Well, if you used to be a field sales executive (in your past life) then trying to work the same way now with children may be a bit frustrating for you and the kids. Try to find something that you can be flexible with, you may want to schedule your calls during a time that the kids are playing or taking a nap. Tele-classes may need to be held at 11:00am vs the standard 8:00pm time slot. It’s okay, you are a mompreneur now. You determine the schedule that works best for you. I guarantee you will attract other moms that will have the same schedule.

3.) Tell your clients that you are a mompreneur: This way when your children do happen to interrupt your call, your client isn’t surprised. Try, however, to explain to your kids that you will be on the phone that you need some quiet time. There is nothing worse than being on the other end of the line and “mom” decides to have a whole conversation with the child and forgets about you, the client. If you have to call the client back, then do. It’s better than having a double conversation going and neglecting your child while being rude to your client.

4.) Block your time: I learned this from my personal coach, Debra Larson at Simply Wealthy by Debra (http://www.DebraLarson.com). She teaches you to do similar items at the same time. It literally takes 7 minutes for your brain to adjust each time you change to a different task. As moms we are forced to be multitasker’s, but the more like-items we group together, the quicker we will get those tasks done.

5.) Is this a hobby or a business?: It’s common practice for people to think that SAHM’s that work from home is just a hobby, and perhaps you may not be taken seriously. With technology these days, working from home is becoming more common. So my comment to this is treat your business like a business and you will be fine. If you set time aside to work then work, don’t do your laundry. Some of the most successful women I know work from home… I am talking women who make millions of dollars each year!

6.) But I don’t have 4 hours a day, let alone 8 hours a day to give to my business: This is one of the biggest myths newbie Mompreneurs bring to me. You would be amazed how much you can get done with just 2 focused hours per day. I’m talking 2 focused hours on specific projects NOT playing on facebook. Plus, don’t be afraid to reach out and hire a Virtual Assistant to help you. You may not think you can’t afford it, but you may be surprised how much more you are able to make with a little helping hand not to mention just getting things done quicker with less stress (this goes a long way in my book). This applies to running some errands for you too. You don’t have to be superwoman, but with a little help everyone will think that you are!!!

7.) Can you pick up my _____?: Your spouse may think that now you are at home you don’t do much and have a tendency to have you run all the errands and create a big To-do list for you. This is one of the most miss-construed comments I have ever heard and I’m sure you would agree! Share your schedule with your spouse so they understand that your day isn’t a free for all. And that you’d be happy to help but you may not be able to do “___” until “___”. This is better than grumbling and getting upset thinking he doesn’t understand (which he probably doesn’t.)

8.) Turn work off: Work is always at home now, so you may be tempted to work all the time. I know, I’ve been there. This was a big learning curve for me. You must set up boundaries for yourself. Set some structure to your work time and family, relationship time apart from each other. Make sure you adhere to this as best you can. Otherwise I guarantee your spouse will feel neglected and will not feel important. Though he may never express this to you, I promise it will come out in other “not so pretty” ways. Plus, you will just be more relaxed if you focus on family during family time and vice versa.

So with just a few tweaks to your schedule, a few boundaries and communicating with the ones you love you should be on your way to a stress-free way of working from home and being a fabulous mom as well!

For all you entrepreneurs who are running your online home business and want to learn home business marketing strategies that work, I’d like to introduce you to Freeda, the flat-headed flea.

(This story is a twist on an old, behavioral science story that applies to the quest for financial freedom that one of my mentors shared with me. Allow me to explain what Freeda has to do with online home business marketing. I promise to tie it all together at the end.)

Freeda, the Flat-Headed Flea, grew up inside a bottle. She didn’t know how she had gotten into that bottle, but there was food and she was comfortable.

She was very lonely. Day after day, she would look through the glass of the bottle and yearn to be part of all the exciting things that were happening around her. She was very eager to get out of the bottle and experience the world.

Ever since she was very young, Freeda loved to jump. It felt good, and she was good at it. It came naturally to her. You might say she had a gift of jumping and a passion for it.

Freeda wanted to jump out of the bottle and do more with her life. So, she naturally tried to jump out.

At first, she wasn’t very strong, and she couldn’t jump very high. As she practiced, she got better. With each jump she would get closer and closer to the top of the bottle. It became easier and easier to get closer and closer as she got stronger and stronger.

Then one day, she just knew that she would be able to jump out with her next jump. She was so excited that she would soon be out in the world. She told herself that this would be the jump that would lead her to freedom–to life without constraints. She would be able to do what she wanted to, when she wanted, wherever she wanted. She had to get out!

She mustered up all her strength to make a powerful attempt. She jumped higher and faster than ever before.

She hit something.

There was a cork in the mouth of the bottle. She hit it hard, and it hurt…but she wasn’t ready to give up.

She tried over and over again.

Ouch! Each time she tried she it her head and fell back down hard.

Eventually, Freeda realized that if she did not jump as high, she would avoid hitting her head on the cork. So she learned to jump just high enough to get near the top without hitting it.

She settled on living her life inside the bottle and only jumping high enough to avoid the cork. She never tried to get out again and only jumped just high enough to not get hurt.

As time passed, the cork loosened and fell off the bottle, but Freeda didn’t notice. She continued jumping only as high as she had learned to avoid pain, failure and disappointment.

Freeda’s life almost came to an end when a passerby kid saw the bottle and shook her out. She was free! Now her dream of freedom would not simply be buried inside her flattened head.

Now, what does Freeda, the flat-headed flea, have to do with home business marketing? You probably figured it out. Does any of this story sound familiar to your home business marketing exploits?

Many of us live our lives based upon internal interpretations of what is possible. Very often our notion of what is possible is not based on reality. We all run into obstacles that threaten to end our chances for success, and we sometimes give up on our dreams.

You might be saying to yourself right now “Is this guy nuts? As far as I know, I’m NOT losing 40% of my affiliate commissions!” At least you think you’re not.

If you are just starting out and your visitors are few and far between than you might not have this problem but many successful and hardworking affiliates out there might never know if they do not stop to check their numbers from time to time.

It’s hard to imagine how much money all those affiliates lose every day. And it drives me mad… because I know that it can be easily avoided – with less than 15 minutes of work! PLEASE don’t make the same mistake that almost everyone makes.

Most serious affiliates already know how and why they MUST avoid it… but I’m sick of seeing the majority of “regular” affiliates ignore my advice. Looks like they just want to lose their money. Oh well. But you should BE SERIOUS about your affiliate business. Heck, I’m sure you already are. So now… STOP losing your hard-earned commissions - CLOAK your affiliate links!

Creating a simple redirect is easy – but in fact the more affiliate links you have, the more time-consuming it gets.

How to create a subdomain redirect?

That depends on your web host’s individual rules and configuration. In general you have to create a directory (sometimes in a specific location) and then use your host’s server tools to set a subdomain on that directory. Then you put the index .html (or .htm) file in the directory your new subdomain points to. The HTML code doesn’t change – it’s exactly the same code that we used in our directory redirect. I strongly recommend using subdomain redirects rather than “regular” directory redirects.
